Portrait of Mary Langton ( nee Tyndale), a cream and brown dress with blue shawl holding a pink rose. Inscribed, Mary, only daughter of Thmoas Tyndale Esq. (2nd son of thomas Tyndale of Eastwood Park in the parish of Thornbury Gloucestershire & wife of George Langton in Lincolnshire.
Simon Verelst ( 1644-c,1721)
The son of a portrait painter, Simon Verelst came to England in 1669, where his skill as a painter of flowers and still lives was noted by Pepys. Patronized by Nell Gwyn and encouraged by George Villers, he turned to the lucrative business of portraiture. His style is characterised by High Keyed tones and strong lines, often including beautifully painted flowers.
